Connective Videos: Berlin – Hong Kong 5/6
A collaborative showcase of the Videoart at Midnight Edition (Berlin) and the Videotage Media Art Collection (Hong Kong) video art collections
Connective Video 5/6 presents the Hong Kong artist Yau Ching and German-based French artist Mathilde ter Heijne, both are known for their steadfast investment in exploring the lives and predicaments of female and outsiders from all walks of life, and juxtaposes their works which were made under contrasting circumstances but share similar thematic concerns nonetheless.
Starting from the subject of womanhood, Yau Ching and ter Heijne set out to examine the existing social norm and structure (Constructing Matriarchy, Suet Sin’s Sisters) and explore larger questions such as self and politics (Video Letter 1-3), the protest and empowerment of the oppressed (Face to the Dawn of Liberty), the sublimation and channelling of human emotion (Lament, Song for Transitions). It should also be noted that, though Yau and ter Heijne travel around the globe and make videos in places far away from home, their personal visions and identities are still very much discernible in the videos.
Connective Videos
Connective Videos: Berlin – Hong Kong is a new collaborative platform between Germany and Hong Kong, curated by Olaf Stüber (Videoart at Midnight, Berlin) and Isaac Leung (Videotage, Hong Kong), presented by Goethe-Institut Hongkong. The project encompasses the video art collections of the Videoart at Midnight Edition and the Videotage Media Art Collection. In multiple screenings throughout 2018, Connective Videos aims to learn, compare, and reimagine compelling stories told by various German and Hong Kong artists. It will consider histories across various geographical spaces and offer insights into our existing knowledge of video art production and archival practices.
(Face to the Dawn of Liberty)、人類情感的昇華和引導(Lament— Song for Transitions)。
