The Challenge in Digital Age

The times we live in can be inscribed with different names according to different beliefs. Our festival is named digitalnow@2001 to highlight the effects of technology on how we live. Apart from contributing to industries, commerce, medical sciences and entertainment, digital technology has greatly influenced the arts. As a member of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, I would like to take this opportunity to explore what impact digital technology has brought on us. From the organization to implementation of the festival, we have had to face various problems – after all, the subject of digital technology is quite a new area of interest in the arts. Although we do not have much financial resources, we have had the support of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Global Video Conferencing, Arts Victoria, Australia Council, IX Tech Limited, Gity of Melbourne, Asia Link, Hewlett Packard, dg21 and friends to make this festival possible.

We are particularly delighted to work with partners in various professions and cross the geographical boundary to cooperate with Company in Space in Asustralia, We will also show our joint INCARNATE to audiences in Melbourne and Hong Kong at the same time.

This festival is not restricted to a particular space and time anymore. Using digital memories, digitalnow@2001 can be re-enacted to audiences anywhere anytime.

數碼紀元的挑戰

在不同的學說信念上，我們現在的生活的年代有不同的銘名。今天選用 digitalnow@2001 是想突顯數碼(digital)技術對現在生活的影響。數碼技術在工業、商業、醫學到娛樂都有不同的貢獻，在藝術創作上亦有很大的作為。身為藝術中心一份子很想借這個機會來探討數碼技術對我們有甚麼衝擊。在籌辦到落實，我們面對不同的問題，畢竟這個課題對藝術界來說也是很新，我們的資金也不算多，在很大局限下我們得到香港藝術發展局、Global Video
Conferencing Technologies 、Arts Victoria、Australia Council 、互聯通有限公司、 City of Melboure、Asia Link、惠普香港有限公司、dg21 及很多友好支持終於辦了這個節。

我們最值得高興的是找到不同行業的工作伙伴，亦突破地域上的界限與澳洲的 Company in Space 合作，把我們合作的作品「通電化身」同步讓墨爾本及香港兩地的觀眾欣賞。

這個節不再局限在某時某地，因為借助數碼記憶的幫助，digitainow@2001 可以任何時何地再現觀眾眼前。
