ROY Nicklas
biography /
Roy uses art in order to explore technology. His researches result in mechanical sculptures, electric machines, interactive performances and electronic devices.
“We make money not art” once described him as “one of the most facetious characters of the ‘new media art’ world.”Before concentrating on making art, he worked as director, as 3D animator and as visual effect supervisor for several international film productions. Some of Roy’s more well known pieces include the media art classic “Pongmechanik” – an electromechanical reconstruction of a Pong game, “My little Piece of Privacy” – a robotic curtain which protects Roy’s privacy, “Electronic Instant Camera” – a very slow instant camera which prints on thermal receipt paper, and his “Perpetual Energy Wasting Machine” – a rope and pulley contraption which moves an elevator permanently between two floors of a building.
