Videotage Media Art Collection — Paranormal
In a time of heightened global uncertainty and changing dynamics resulting from a hyper-connected world, many millennial artists are speculating on the notion of humanity and envision an uncanny image of the future. By using computer generated animations, 3D renderings, and digital performances, works made by these artists often involve new forms of symbols utilized not only for compositional structures, but to invoke a peculiar state of mind and provide a novel encounter with the science-fictional world. Paranormal investigates a unique genre of artistic expression that is eminently psychedelic, hallucinogenic, and spiritual, attempting to unravel the potential of future video art by presenting millennial artists’ works from Hong Kong, China and beyond. This screening program has been selected by Isaac Leung. The works are drawn from Videotage Media Art Collection (VMAC), one of the most historically significant video art archives in the region, and whose support has made this endeavor possible.
