Exit for Chongqing
The meandering roads along hills and mountains
The vernacular of the old, the new, the tall and the low collapsing in
We both, are used to the city being assembled like a jigsaw
We both, are used to catching glimpses of the sea in crevices
We both, are used to leakages from AC units moistening the streets
They all said Chongqing resembles Hong Kong
We both, are born in 1997
both desperately trying to forget our pasts
They said the happiest people
Are the most forgetful
Traversing the ever changing and expanding cityscape of Chongqing, the artist follows the red balloon, traverses the city’s changing landscape to journey through its soon-to-disappear landmarks and characters. Combining observations of the everyday and the energy of its inhabitants to explore the spirit of the Dao inherent within forgetfulness, in face of “disappearing cities” like Chongqing and Hong Kong.
