Trailers samples Google street view panoramas, along with the title sequences, trailers, theme songs and publicity shots from some twenty adaptations of The Condor Trilogy by Jin Yong (a classic ‘new wuxia’ epic first published in the late 1950s), interweaving mundane and mythical landscapes inhabiting the everyday.
The film forms part of susan pui san lok’s ongoing project RoCH Fans & Legends, which draws on fan uploads of over forty different media adaptations of The Condor Trilogy. ‘RoCH’ refers to Return of the Condor Heroes, the second book in the trilogy; ‘wuxia’ is a martial arts swordplay genre of Chinese fiction, television and cinema, usually featuring the adventures of male and female ‘knight errants’. RoCH Fans & Legends explores some of wuxia’s fantasies, landscapes, and archetypes, the trilogy’s numerous translations across popular culture, and recurring images of weightlessness.

Susan Pui San Lok is an artist, researcher and writer based in London. Her work ranges across installation, moving image, sound, performance and text, evolving out of interests in notions of nostalgia and aspiration, place and migration, translation and diaspora. Recent exhibitions include the 1st Asia Biennial / 5th Guangzhou Triennial, Guangdong Museum of Art (2015-16), and solo shows at CFCCA, Manchester (2016), Derby QUAD (2015), and MAI, Montréal Arts Interculturels (2014). Previous projects include Lightness (2012), commissioned by Film & Video Umbrella (FVU) and De La Warr Pavilion; Faster, Higher (2008), commissioned by FVU and BFI Southbank Gallery, London, (2009); DIY Ballroom/LIVE (2007-08), a Cornerhouse/BBC Bigger Picture National Touring commission; and Golden (2005-ongoing).
