An exposition of the 19 most important Hong Kong and mainland Chinese artists of the millennial era and the international debut of Feng Mengbo’s first virtual reality artwork

Hong Kong – Videotage, a leading Hong Kong-based non-profit organization specializing in the promotion and preservation of new media art, this week proudly announced they are launching an exhibition with K11, One World Exposition 2.1: #like4like, to build on the success witnessed from their 2011 One World Exposition.

Designed to sport the heightened network on social media, namely #like4like, while exploring Chinese media art from regional, national, and global perspectives, One World Exposition 2.1: #like4like will feature exhibition works of the 19 most important artists of the millennial era from Hong Kong and China, including Carla Chan, Chen Tianzhuo, Chen Wei, Chris Cheung (h0nh1m)/XCEED, Double Fly Art Center, Hu Weiyi, Lu Yang, Sun Xun, Tang Kwok Hin and Morgan Wong. These artists will participate in various forms of activities in Hong Kong and work closely with each other between April and September 2017. 10 newly commissioned works will be presented to demonstrate the outcomes of the yearlong interactions in the second phase of this project later this year.

In addition to the main attractions of the upcoming program, the project will also include a virtual reality special exhibition, Q3DVR, created and developed by artist Feng Mengbo. Q3DVR explores video games as a language of installation in multiple layers. By using virtual reality goggles, Q3DVR blends the amazing fight scene of Feng’s iconic artwork, Q4U, into live Tropical fishes, with 10 times slow motion to build an unforgotten, vibrant and quiet swimming pool, bridging the virtual and real worlds.

Feng Mengbo is the first Chinese artist to use computer technology for arts since 1993, and globally well known for his video game artworks. His famous work includes Q3 (1999), Q4U (2002), Long March: Restart (2008), Not Too Late (2010) and Trueman Fight (2012), shown in many museums and biennials, and collected by MoMA, Guggenheim, LACMA, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, UCCA, M+ and many more.

One World Exposition 2.1: #like4like will be open from March 21 until May 21, 2017 at chi K11 art space, B207, K11 Art Mall, 18 Hanoi Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Feng’s special Q3DVR exhibition will be available during the exhibition period as well in the chi K11 art space.

The One World Exposition premise is to, above all, aid in the rethinking of the subject position of Hong Kong and mainland Chinese artists, hoping to break away from the nominal discourse of contemporary Chinese art and reconsider the locality of Chinese art history.
