YAN Wai Yin (b.1994) works and lives in Hong Kong and London. Yan is an artist working across moving images, photography, and media. She observes the transformation of urban spaces and infrastructures as a means to unfold and investigate the interplay between lived experiences and historical remnants. She aligns herself with the interscalar attunement between place and identity. Her film “Localized Blindness” (2019) was awarded the Best Experimental Award at the 20th South Taiwan Film Festival, “Tugging Diary” (2020) was awarded at Taiwan Kaohsiung Film Festival and Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris. In 2023, Yan was a Visual Art Fellow supported by the ACC New York Fellowship (2024). Solo exhibitions include: “Too Long Ago, Not Far” (Floating Projects, 2023) and “Black Bird, Frost Flower and Pink Falling Stars” (RNH Space, 2021). Solo screenings and presentations include: Duddell’s Hong Kong, Tai Kwun Contemporary (Hong Kong), deArt Centre (Beijing), DAC.Taipei Digital Art Centre (Taiwan). Recent exhibitions and screenings include: Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, M+ Museum, Blindspot Gallery, Ben Brown Gallery (Hong Kong), Galerie Urs Meile (Beijing), Asia Art Archive in America (US), CINEMATEK – Royal Film Archive of Belgium (Belgium), Kunstmuseum Bonn, European Media Art Festival (Germany), Open City Documentary Festival (UK), IFFR (Netherlands), Videoex (Switzerland), Image Forum (Japan), DMZ IDFF, EXiS (Korea), and TIVA-ANIMA (Taiwan) among others.
