Happy Valley (Waiting at T Zero)沒有人(在跑馬地)等沒有人
There are three ways to enter Happy Valley. Made in 1997, a sentimental journey into the history of Hong Kong. Narration by the voices of a male and a female accompany the myriad poetic images reflecting the histories behind so much changes in Happy Valley and elsewhere in Hong Kong. There are more than three ways to appreciate Happy Valley.
Basically we only ever have one reason for going to certain places and that is to satisfy our inner longings. Those of the young estate agent and the man looking for accommodation seem clear. He wants to move to the suburbs to get away from life in the city and she wants to earn money. But the new Happy Valley residential district on the outskirts of Hong Kong becomes an area for the projection of much more personal longings of a very different kind and a fateful place for both the young city dwellers – assuming they actually meet.
Each of my stories takes you right into the heart of a city without telling you the space that stretches between one part of the city and the other, whether it is covered by seas, or fields or rye, I larch forest, swamps. I will answer you with stories. – Italo Calvino
